Ever since 1998, the readers of UHREN-MAGAZIN have annually awarded the Golden Balance Wheel to the world’s best watches. This year’s awards mark the twelfth consecutive cooperation with Focus, the newsmagazine. This closely coordinated collaboration assures an ideal combination of competence and coverage. The latter is further enlarged through integration of the Focus online Internet platform. This concept also convinces the participating firms, which donate prizes worth over 40 000 euros. 285 candidates vied for our readers’ favor in five price categories. Eligibility was restricted solely to mechanical models.

The preselection was made by the manufacturers, who could submit total of three models. Then readers of Focus experienced the agony of choice on the online platform, where they selected among the remaining fifty candidates. Over 21 299 registered users cast their ballots at Focus online from December 12, 2016 to January 15, 2017. Exactly 25 544 people participated in the voting for the world’s best watches. All candidates can count themselves among the winners: you can learn the identities of the victors on the following pages.
